Matthew grew up in the Midwest, where his grandfather introduced him to the outdoors and sparked a lifelong passion for wild places. He spent his childhood catching crawdads in creeks, fishing for channel cats, and hunting whitetail deer. Though he began hunting with an old 7mm Mauser, everything changed at fourteen when he picked up a garage-sale Bear Archery compound bow—simply hoping to add more days to his fall season.
In 2021, Matthew’s journey shifted toward traditional archery and bowmaking. He trained under master bowyer Correy Hawk at Organic Archery, completing both the Bowmaking 101 course and the Advanced Bowmaking course under Correy’s mentorship. Since then, he’s been fully committed to the simple stick and string—crafting bows, refining his skills, and taking a variety of big game with traditional tackle.
Matthew is also the host of The Bowyer Podcast, where he shares conversations, stories, and knowledge from across the traditional archery and bowmaking world.
Hooked for life, he continues to hone his craft as both a bowyer and a traditional bowhunter.
Matthew is a bowyer, storyteller, traditional bowhunter, and host of The Bowyer Podcast, where he shares the stories of artisans, cultural historians, and those who pursue big game with a stick and string.
